Be careful that you are dealing with the genuine company!
Australians and New Zealanders have been targetted by scammers setting up fake shipping company web sites.
The operation, as we have seen it, seeks payment for second hand goods sourced from overseas which are advertised in trading websites and local newspapers. The adds claim that the items will then be shipped by reputable shipping companies, and direct the victim to the fake web site for payment to an overseas account.
The fake web sites are similar in name and appearance to the genuine ones with pages copied from genuine company sites.
As the items can include large commercial machinery, as well as motor bikes and vehicles, the amounts at risk in these scams can be large. Losses in excess of $10,000 have been reported.
