Hyundai Merchant Marine Australia joins Shipping Australia Limited

Shipping Australia Limited is pleased to welcome Hyundai Merchant Marine Australia as a full voting member.

HMM Australia is part of the Seoul, South Korea-headquartered global integrated logistics company Hyundai Merchant Marine. A member of The Alliance, HMM is active in the container trades, operating over 100 vessels with a combined TEU capacity of more than 394,000 TEU. 

Shipping Australia CEO, Rod Nairn was enthusiastic about their new member.  “Hyundai Merchant Marine is a significant player in the world shipping scene with interests in almost all sectors of shipping including container, bulk, liquid and heavy lift.  This diversity provides strength and enhances our ability to represent all sectors of the international shipping industry,” he said.

“HMM are excited about our recent acceptance into the Shipping Australia organisation. HMM has been a part of the Australian shipping landscape for over 25 years and we welcome the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of the Australian maritime industry as a full member of SAL”, Mr Bryan An, Managing Director of HMM Australia commented.

 “HMM has commenced executing a strategy of growth through the membership of The Alliance and the delivery of new 23000 TEU vessels. Australia is seen as a key developmental area for HMM as the global network expands. The membership of SAL is a further step in HMM’s commitment to the Australian trade, as it allows participation in developing better shipping industry for all sectors of the supply chain” General Manager Australia, Mr Len Phillips added.

“Australia is absolutely dependent on international commercial shipping for our economic prosperity and every Australian’s quality of life.  Hyundai Merchant Marine is doing their bit to support Australia and we are pleased to be able to support them by promoting sensible and sustainable shipping policies in Australia,” Nairn concluded.
