Fantastic turnout at Shipping Australia’s biennial Port Kembla Luncheon

By Shipping Australia

After a long COVID-induced break, Shipping Australia was delighted to host our Port Kembla Luncheon! It was a great turnout and guests enjoyed a delicious three course meal.

Alternate services beef cheeks or barramundi was served, follwed by gelato or orange and almond teacakes.

Shipping Australia was honoured and privileged to host the Hon Paul Scullly, MP, NSW Minister for Planning & Public Spaces and Member for Wollongong.

Minister Scully confirmed that he had tabled port privatisation documents in Parliament and he also spoke about Port Kembla’s great past as an industrial port and his hopes for the future.

“Shipping is not only part and parcel of our past but must be part and parcel of our future”.

Shipping Australia will provide a more full of the Minister’s speech update next week.

Also addressing guests was Monika Lemajic, President of WISTA.

She described a variety of changes that the organisation has undergone so as to promote diversity, equity and inclusion, which has included constitutional change at WISTA to allow male membershpis and by forging partnerships.

She also paid tribute to Shipping Australia CEO, Captain Melwyn Noronha.

“I was once told by my mentor that the true measure of leadership is the ability to positively influence someone whom you’ve never met. By [Capt] Melwyn [Noronha] asking me to speak today he is championing diversity, equality, equality, and inclusivity and setting an example as a leader, a ripple effect that extends far beyond this room”.

Shipping Australia also thanked its sponsors, AAT and The MCC Group, without whose support this event would simply not be possible.
